Shopping at Amish quilt sheds where they could tell me which women had worked on each quilt and for how long, clockmakers that had dogs running around amongst the woodshavings, toymakers, general stores, fabric stores-- getting that glimpse into their culture. Their ingenuity and the quality of their goods was inspiring.
